PC Strand

PC strand, or prestressed concrete steel strand, is a twisted steel cable used to reinforce concrete. It is made of high-strength steel wires that are stress-relieved to create internal compressive forces in the concrete, which counteracts tensile forces and increases the overall strength and stability of structures like bridges, buildings, and other large-scale projects. PC strand comes in various configurations, including different wire counts and surface finishes, with the most common being a 7-wire structure

Raw Materials

The main raw material for PC strand is high-carbon steel wire rod, specifically grades like SWRH 82B or 1080 carbon wire rod. This raw material is a high-strength, cold-worked steel that is processed through drawing, twisting, and stabilizing treatments to create the final prestressed concrete strand

Processing

Continuous drawing by means of big reduction of area, twist, stabilizing treatment

Features:

PC (prestressing concrete) strand features include high tensile strength, low relaxation, and a stable modulus of elasticity, making it ideal for reinforcing concrete. It offers benefits like increased load-bearing capacity, corrosion resistance, and design flexibility, while allowing for lighter structures and longer spans in construction. Common structural profiles are made of multiple twisted wires, such as a 1x7 configuration.
